I just got back from walking Carrie in Victoria Park here in Truro. The weather is gorgeous; there were people throwing frisbees, kids running around, laughing, splashing in the streams. While Carrie stealthily stalked squirrels, I people watched. And I got to watch the most amazing thing- a proposal! This great looking guy was holding his girlfriend’s hand, twirling her around, she was smiling (yes, like out of a movie), and bouncing and laughing, and on the very last twirl he got down on one knee. I stopped walking and actually said “no way,” thinking “of course I don’t have my camera.” I shamelessly watched the whole thing. She was smiling huge- no crying for this chick. I heard her shriek, “YES!” and as he slipped the ring on her finger, she pulled her hand away and twirled around with her hand held up in front of her. Her now fiancé got up and she threw her arms around his neck and he hugged her. More twirling ensued. I teared up. Awesome for them. Congratulations, whoever you guys are!
It got me thinking about “the ring.” The ring is a big thing. It marks the beginning of when things become real to girls. It marks when you can start planning, and when you can start calling him your fiancé. It marks the beginning of tan lines on your left ring finger that you secretly love. It marks the beginning of everyone knowing that you’re getting married someday soon. It really is a landmark beginning to the rest of your life.
